WebOct 26, 2024 · When rye grass is infected with Rathayibacter toxicus, it produces a poisonous chemical called corynetoxin. This toxin can affect the horse’s central nervous system, and can cause death if inhaled. There have been a few documented cases of horses becoming sick or dying after consuming infected rye grass. WebARGT is caused by a tunicamycin-like corynetoxin that is produced in R. toxicus-infected seed galls. We analyzed protein expression in R. toxicus under stationary growth phase conditions to obtain a more complete understanding of the biology of this organism and identify potential targets for immunoassay development.
