WebJul 13, 2024 · So long story short, same noise, same symptom. I ordered an AC clutch, around $80 to $90, pulled the old clutch, not TOO difficult. When i got ready to install the new clutch, i noticed the shaft on the AC compressor had basically worn a groove on half of the outside tapered part, about 1/16th of an inch. The idle air control valve adjusts how much air is bypassing the throttle plate, increasing air flow when the AC compressor clutch actuates to help the engine stay at idle speed when under the extra load. My confusion is: -If the compressor was bad, it certainly wouldn't turn when the clutch is engaged. -If the clutch hub was separated, which it doesn't APPEAR to be, it wouldn't turn the compressor. I assume (based on your location) this thermistor is saying to the ECU no need to turn on as the temp is already low enough. Hopefully this is the case and you are just chasing your tail a little bit by trying to make it work in the middle of winter?

WebJan 8, 2014 · Probably the easiest thing to do is locate the appropriate relay and pull it. If it's the compressor making the noise and not the pulley/clutch, that should work. Otherwise it's pulley time. If the compressor is on a belt by itself, I guess you could remove the belt. You can verify that by jumping the compressor relay wires and then pulling off the connector at the compressor and checking it for power. If you have power, the compressor itself is bad.
